Tokyo 2021 Paralympic Games Opening Ceremony Moments

Tokyo, PTI. Congratulating the spirit of the para-athletes, the opening ceremony of the 16th Paralympic Games kicked off here on Tuesday with a message of progress amidst the disruption caused by the COVID-19 epidemic. The Paralympic Games will be held again in Tokyo after 57 years, making the Japanese capital the first city to host the Games twice.

As a sign of diversity and inclusion, a platform like Para Airport was set up for the event. The celebrations began with a video showing the power of the pair players. At the end of the video, a colorful program dressed by Para Airport staff was unveiled, followed by a spectacular display of explosives at the airport.

Earlier, the International Committee of Persons with Disabilities Andrew Parsons and Emperor Naruhito of Japan were welcomed to the stadium, followed by six Japanese flag bearers, including Kaori Iko and four-time Olympic wrestling champion and defender activist Takumi Astani.

A record of 4 403 players will take part in this season’s international tournament. Its previous record of 4 328 players was set at the Rio 2016 Games. 2,550 male athletes and 1,853 female athletes will compete in the Tokyo Paralympic Games. India will be represented by 54 players at the Games, which will run until September 5, which is the country’s largest delegation to date.

Looking at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Paralympic Games, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “We wish you the best of luck in India, I am confident that our Paralympic team will provide the best and inspire others.” Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli said, “I wish you all the best for the Indian flag at the Tokyo Paralympics. Congratulations to all of you and I am sure you will make us proud.”

Prashant Aggarwal, President Narayan Seva Sansthan said, “The life story of Paralympic athletes is about love, commitment and determination and serves as an inspiration to all of us. Every Paralympic athlete is part of the world by participating in sports. Attitudes are changing. NSS congratulates him on making India proud in sport by doing his best. “The center has been helping people with disabilities for decades.

Tek Chand has replaced Mariyappan as India’s flag bearer

High jump athlete Mariyappan Thangavelu failed to become the Indian flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games after meeting a Kovid-19 infected person on a plane to Tokyo and replaced by athlete Tek Chand.

The gold medalist at the Rio Paralympic Mariyappan is being held in solitary confinement with five other Indians. Diskin thrower Vinod Kumar was also unable to take part in the opening ceremony for the same reason.

Indian team official Gursharan Singh said before the opening ceremony, ‘We just received information from the Tokyo Paralympic COVID Control Room that six of our Para athletes were in close contact with an infected person on their way to Tokyo. Of the six, Mariyappan and Vinod Kumar were found to be the closest contacts. It is unfortunate that Mariyappan will not be able to attend the official opening ceremony while carrying the flag. Tek Chand will now take over the role of flag bearer in his place. Singh, however, said both Mariyappan and Vinod would be taking part in their events as they were tested in their absence.
